You're right! Thanks Enermax is in. Tagan out.You can plug a 4 pin CPU power into an 8 pin board, if memory serves...? Pretty sure I did it the other week... In fact, yes. 8 pins are only really required when the CPU draw is > 130 watts, and the 3770k you have is 77w?
Wow I had no idea how "low-profile" that low profile memory actually is, that's awesome!
Well was I shocked to say the least how such a high end PSU such as this Seasonic XPS 1000 Platinum PSU can blow up in my face literally. On a brand new build after about 8 hours operation the PSU went with a huge spark and massive bang and the resultant dead PC. This was a brand new $3k build and I was ******** bricks the whole PC was taken out.
Luckily, I had an older Enermax 620W Liberty PSU and once plugged in everything came back to life and running well (touch wood) last 30 odd hours.
I've seen cheapo PSU do this over the years but never a new PSU of this calibre and $300 expense. I'm so shocked this PSU got through Seasonic QC and fail so epically, the bang was that loud the missus thought I had done away with myself. Thank god for warranty.
I bought one from them last week, with all the other pieces for my x79 upgrade. Set it up on the weekend, 10 minutes into installing windows and same thing, huge bang, tripped the circuit breaker as well and now dead
I did the same, swapped in my old psu and the rest of the pc runs fine, just need to send it back.
I think you should be right, as already mentioned maybe just a small number of this model Seasonic had a bad component. From my searching around a few forums the ones that failed were DOA or died after a few hours use, that seemed to be the common trend.
Adding another exploding Seasonic PSU to the list - a mate's brand new 1000w unit just exploded after a few seconds of operation.
Yes, I contacted Seasonic and also spoke with the Aussie distributor (Powerhouse PC Australia) and they confirmed to me personally via phone conversation there was a bad batch, a single faulty component on the main board. I couldn't get specifics on which part or affected serial no's etc, but if you got one of these PSU's and it hasn't blown I wouldn't be worried, they fail pretty much straight away when they go. It was admirable that they were honest about it.
There is a new shipment coming in next week that does not have this fault, so obviously I'm waiting for new stock to arrive.
My Platinum 860W PSU failed in the same manner after the first 4 hours on my recent build. Took it back to umart two days later who swapped it for a new one straight away, no questiosn asked.
Discovered a couple of days later that one of the USB3 controllers on the motherboard wasn't working and also had it replaced. I'm not sure whether it was related to the PSU failure. No issue with swapping that through umart either.
My replacement PSU has been working ok, however I haven't had it anywhere near full load as I sized it for future capacity to allow for installing extra hardware.
Sigh, I wish I'd read this thread earlier.
Same thing just happened to my new Seasonic XP-1000. Finally put together my new machine, and was having a look around the BIOS, when there was a small pop, and the whole machine went dead. Also tripped the circuit breaker for the circuit I had it plugged into.
PSU is dead, and it also seems to have taken out the fan controller/control panel on my Coolermaster Cosmos II. Hopefully nothing else (haven't been able to fully test everything else yet).
OP - did everything survive OK? Now I'm worried about something being damaged but not totally fried
Hope my replacement doesn't do the same!Sigh, I wish I'd read this thread earlier.

Yep, will hide cables once I've got my replacement but as Roalith mentioned I don't think there's much in the way of hiding spots besides behind the hard drive cage. The cage will be loaded with all my drives so the cabling won't be visible. Good thing the Seasonic is modular too. I'm going to email OcUK now that I've just sent the parcel as I'm inclined to stick with the Enermax brand and go with the Platimax range...Yikes about the PSU - I'm surprised there not been a recall if theres a common problem with a particular batch.
At least the problem seems to be non destructive to other parts. Are we to assume that you're not going to hide away the cables until the RMA'd one comes back...?
Thanks mate, will rerun it once I have my replacement PSU installed and then again after overclocking.Nice looking build you got here ! p.s. Heaven benchmark should be run again with Tesselation set to high I think
Nah still working but would rather use the latest SATA 6GB/s 7200 rpm drives than the Velociraptor as a boot drive. It makes too much noise and isn't day and night difference compared to my 2TB drives in terms of speed. The raptor must be dead for you to do that to it surely? It is looking mighty good...
