Hi guys, just need a second opinion here to make sure I'm not being stupid.

Currently running a 2600k at 4.9, super stable, with a 1.5Gb GTX 580 on a 144Hz monitor.

In the games I play (league of legends, grid autosport, skyrim, civ5) I have no complaints, everything runs super smooth with no issues.

I have been itching to buy the Inno3d 980, non air-boss model, but something tells me that as I'm pulling 80+FPS on the above titles, is it even worth it?

I feel sure that I won't notice the difference, but I would notice £400 (plus the gtx 580 isnt even worth selling now because the value is so low), can someone give me a hand here?

PS the 580 has had a hard 3 years.

if you ain't going to use the power a newer card brings you.... Don't bother wasting the cash! if a game comes out you want to play and you notice it runs crap that would be the time to upgrade

In some games, the 970 is over twice as fast as the 580 (it's certainly not easily three times more powerful as suggested in #3).

if you don't need more then dont fix what isnt broken. but imo a 970 is better, more efficient, better tech, cooler, quiter, and is half price of 980 but with oc performs just as well.

This^

OP: I upgraded to a 970 from a 570, and I'm happy with the leap due to newer games. But on the games you mention, my 570 was just fine. Save your cash until you start playing games that need the extra horsepower.

Thanks for you opinions, think I will hold off until either my 580 goes pop or a 980 ti comes out. Don't have any stuttering in the games I play, so happy for now. Will find something else to spend £400 quid on. Bangkok here I come :D

I would even think about the To, wait for the 970/980 replacements (the 970 replaced the 780). By then you GPU may be struggling more, enough to warrant a £250-£400 upgrade.
