Well its not under warranty as it was OEM....maybe it wont die and live happily ever after...

i always though oem drives came with warranty? i bought an oem drive from ocuk and had to get it rma'd. it was exchanged through WD itself without any problems.

have you given it a try and checking the rma'ability of it through the manufacturers website?

Yeah I went on there but it comes up that its unable to check and recheck my S/N....I then googled it and found people saying its because its OEM...

Had the same error on my server the other day. Replaced the disk straight away.

If you don't mind losing the data on the drive then carry on till it eventually dies.

There are different definitions of "OEM" in respect of hard drives - the standalone drives sold by component retailers are usually covered by a manufacturer's warranty, but if the drive was sold as part of a prebuilt system, it normally won't be, and you'd have to refer to the PC supplier in the event of a drive failure.

I'd imagine that's the case here, and you'd have to look up the warranty terms for the system as a whole, and chase up the supplier if you have a valid claim.

What has OEM got to do with it?

OcUK sell OEM HDD's with up to 5 years warranty.

A warranty is a warranty.

It'll have whatever warranty it was advertised as having when you bought it.

I can't remember what warranty it said it had, I bought in April 09 from OcUk and my email receipt just says OEM.....it was not bought with a system....

Seagate warranty check can not find s/n.....

Log in to your OcUK account.

Find the order in your order history.

Click on the HDD in the order and it should hopefully take you to the product page stating the warranty.
