Hey guys,

I reckon I have the most annoying problem ever with FEAR. It seems like a bug, I dunno if its the new 1.07 patch or what. I didnt test it before i patched :( This is on a new format with Windows x64 Pro

But basically, it can only be described as the same noise as a foghorn. It varies when it happens, but 99% of the time, its when I jump, zoom in or go into Slowmo mode. The regular sound effect plays, but this foghorn noise plays on top of it, and it starts off fairly quiet, gets louder each time for about 5-8 times then clears.

I have no idea what it is. I've got the latest X-Fi drivers, latest everything infact. I cant find anything on the net. I've tried disabling EAX and EAX HD, but it still does it, im stumped :(

It's annoying because it means I cant have the sound up loud, and with an X-Fi and Z5500's, thats exactly what I want to be doing

Any ideas guys?

Have a look in your FEAR folder for WMFADist.exe and install it.

It's a codec that may help sort out your problems. I have used it when I had sound problems and everything worked great after.

Also some codecs like the Nimo codec pack can cause problems in FEAR.

yeah tried that mate, although you cant install it under x64 :(

Update: If i turn hardware mixing off it cures it, but surely this isnt using my sound card anymore? Although it must be as i've disabled onboard in the bios

I think it will still be using your soundcard but maybe using direct x to mix the sounds instead of the soundcard chip.

I originally had the sound problems without hardware mixing on and have mine set not to use hardware mixing. I tried enabling hardware mixing and got the noises you describe.

Just checked Google and it seems it's a common problem with creative sound cards. The pages I looked at suggested turning hardware mixing off aswell.
