I'd prefer them being designed to withstand the increased pressure gradients like spacecraft have being doing for the past 50 years. That or just flying at lower altitudes.

But that would mean increasing costs therefore leading to layoffs closely followed by people not being happy with the service they are getting.

Personally I'm more worried about how much airlines skimp on safety because of cost though, as they so often do.
