really worth having a tracker?

Depends how much, if any, it reduces your insurance?

Personally if my car was stolen and ragged about in I'd rather get a different one from my insurers.

One good reason not to get a tracker.

Shame I was forced to get one by my insurance company. But if my car was taken I would much rather never see it again....GAP to the rescue!

My friend was told by his insurer that a tracker would actually increase his premium due to something along the lines of being more careless about where he leaves the car parked, etc.

I have found similar with breakdown cover. A premium being cheaper if I have none, which made me think that maybe they would think I'd take less care if I knew I could just be recovered or something.

Crafty.

Just clicked the link. It's obviously for spies who are in a hurry and can't locate where the 'evil' people have put the tracker on them.

I wouldn't bother with a tracker either unless insurance insist. Next week it will be 2months since family had an RS3 stolen... it never showed up on the tracker. And I doubt they'd want it back after it's been ragged anyways.
Apparently the crims these days know how to get round the trackers (there's probably only a few places they can be fitted), and will pretty quickly put the car in an underground car park to block the signal or just get it straight into the crate for its journey to Africa.

If it were me I'd only get a tracker if the insurance company insisted on it as one of the conditions for insuring the vehicle.

I've got one in my subaru factory fitted, never registered as it made no difference to insurance and if its been stolen i don't want it back, thanks.

I don't see much point in the trackers 'cos If you stashed the car in an ISO container would that block the signal or an underground car park.

Stash an old Android mobile phone somewhere tbh with a live to charge the battery. Stick Cerberus on it and nothing else and you'll do far better than a tracker, if you really want it back.
I wouldn't want my pride and joy back after being nicked though, time to pick a new one..

In my opinion it adds little as most professional thieves either know how to bypass them or block them or remove them - or by the time it's detected it'll be in pieces or untraceable.

I have one of these "black boxes" in my car as part of my insurance to monitor my driving (Bell from Admiral).

They claim they can track the car with the box. Scary to think that buying something so easily would block the signal :s

Trackers are not GPS devices, which would be harder to block. Instead they use RF and are tracked using a directional antenna, and this is relatively easy to interfere with.

Such products being sold openly. Interesting.
I can barely see a legal use for use a device.
They seem to be marketing it along the tinfoil hat method.

There is no legal use for them, they are illegal to sell and to use within the UK. However, I doubt that is of much concern to the scum that steal cars.
