Realtek HD Audio Problems

Hi

I am trying to use a headset with a microphone, it plugs into the computer using audio jacks, one for the headphones and one for the microphone. My computer has a Gigabyte GA-73PVM-S2H motherboard, which runs the Realtek HD Audio drivers:

1. Realtek ALC889A codec
2. High Definition Audio
3. 2/4/5.1/7.1-channel
4. Support for S/PDIF In/Out
5. Support for CD In

The problem is, when I plug my microphone into the computer, it doesn't pickup any sound at all.

When I plug the microphone into the 'Mic In' input on the back of my computer, a pop up comes up saying 'You have plugged a device into Mic In', and the same happens if I plug in speakers, it will say I have plugged them in to the corresponding input.

Theres just nothing coming through when I try to record sound using either the Windows Sound Recorder or try a Skype test call. It's not even slightly picking up my voice, as I know some people had a problem where it was just really quiet, mine just doesn't seem to be picking any sound up at all.

I have updated the drivers to the latest version and I had a look at the BIOS settings to see if there could be anything causing the issue there, but both were unsuccessful in fixing the problem.

Does anyone have any idea how to fix this problem?

Thanks for your help.

Have you another PC or laptop you can test the headset? The microphone could have failed. Friend of mine needs to get a new one, if he wasn't such a lazy bugger. :p The mic is failing on his.

are the drivers set to use the front jacks at all? The last pc I built with a similiar setup needed the drivers tweaking to get the fron jack working properly....
