Realtek onboard Vs Optical/DAC for music/films?

The problem you have, your comparing poor motherboard audio, to a very low end DAC.

Now if you were to buy a better DAC, then yes it would be better. But a DAC only costing £15 it might not be worth the trouble buying.

I know, being right.

I have a K5 Pro lying around which has was going to sell, I could use that.

I did try an Amazon basics converter which got good reviews direct from TV but you lose the ability to change volume on TV and speakers are on a shelf and cannot get to them to change volume.
