RealVNC not connecting to server.

I eventually want try and connect to my home PC from work, but right now I can't even connect to it on the lan from the pc downstairs!

I've port forwarded 5900 on both the router for the home pc and the windows firewall, but I still can't seem to access it. I've pinged both pc's ips so they can see each other, it's just RealVNC I'm having issues with.

Any ideas? (This is the free edition using Windows 7 by the way).

VNC is pretty insecure.

LogMeIn & Teamviewer will work out of the box and won't need a port forwarded.

Is there a reason you are using VNC instead of RDP?

Used teamviewer for some time now, I may well have too much trust in it. (just google teamviewer)

But quite a few pcs connected too it, over years now. Connect via my phone using 3g quite often and its pretty quick to run without installing at other people houses if i need to access anything.

Another vote for either Logmein or Teamviewer. Very secure, no need for port fowarding and easy to install

My Windows 7 is only the home premium version and I can't use RDP iirc or can I?

I thought you could but then again I've never really looked into it as I only have pro.
