Hi, i just recived my samsung spinpoint 1tb.
I plugged it in and started up.
I got new hardware detected and it updated the drivers.
BUT it isn't appearing in my computor.
If i go on hardware it is listed, but there seams to be no evidence on the whole pc.
I want to use acronis true image to make a disk image copy of my current hdd with os and all and put it on to the new hdd.
When i go into acronis and do the disk image copy it has disk 2 BUT i cant select it, it says this disk is empy and has no info showing its size or anything.

Please help.

What OS are you on ?

If it is Vista then you need to initialise the hdd 1st then format it.....probably XP too.

I can't remember exactly but I think it's in admin tools, then comp management, then disk management. it should show as uninitialised in there, as I remember you can initialise it from there & format it too.

Go to disk management and initialise and format the disk. Right click My Computer, go to Manage, then to Disk Management.

Edit: beaten lol

btw its a 1tb HDD but it says its max capasity i can partition it as is 931.51?
Is this right, is there realy that much room taken by things like drivers on it? :-s

Ok, how do i set this up then?
Any of you familiar with acronis true image, coz i aint lol.
If i do the creat an image of entire drive onto my new disk, lets say its called disk B:
Will it transform it into another c: drive?
Because if it just copies everything across but its still called B: wont all the paths be wrong and so nothing will work :-s
Because i plan on removing the current drive once its copyed across and useing the 1tb as the main hdd with os on

I just did this. Format it, 931 gb is right because drive manufacturers work in gigabytes but Windows works in gibibytes (correct). Give it a drive letter and use Acronis to image the OS drive and restore the image onto the new drive. Reboot and go into BIOS, change the boot hard drive to the new one. It'll boot from it fine, then in Windows you can format or whatever your old one.

don't make multiple threads

give people a chance to reply

use the search feature of the forum, 'acronis' brings up tons of results
