Noticed this morning that the rear heated window in my car isn't working. When I press the button in my Nissan Almera the light no longer turns on and doesn't work.

Don't have a clue where to start looking, but just wondering if there is anything 'common' I can try first before I take it to the garage.

Thanks !

You could check if there is a break in the wire going to the tailgate, if it goes through a rubber conduit. I don't know if it has one but it is a common fail point on other cars, but mainly french cars.

Mine doesnt work either and im sure its the fuse, im just too lazy to check lol. Though with colder weather coming and iced up windows, it takes an age to defrost without a heated rear windscreen :(

If the light isn't coming on, then i would suggest it's the 'switching' side of the circuit, check the fuse & fusebox first, then the switch, the relay, (use a multimeter to see if you have power to them & check the earth side of the circuit(s) with the switch in the 'on' position).

If the element or it's wiring was at fault (i.e. tailgate connects, grommets etc), the light on the sitch would likely to stay on as it would be the high current part of the circuit at fault (totally separate).

On my old 306, the rear screen relay had overheated and a solder joint had broken off inside, maybe an idea to pop the cover off the relay and see if there is anything obvious - that is if none of the other suggestions work.

Check the fuse, but the next question should be why you need to use it anyway given that you do not need to be able to see out of the rear window in any event?

Sorry to hijack but it is the same car and similar issue: my heated rear screen only does the bottom half. Ideas? Is it home fixable?

Check the strips themselves, my Punto missed a few strips, they'd been broken by the previous owner's dog.

There are kits available to repaint the strips, I haven't tried them myself, but it probably isn't going to make anything worse.

That happened to be the first one I found, I have no experience or association with the product.

Probably get similar kits on the bay for less.

What I do is use a test light on each of the tracks & check along them to see if any of the metal strip has scratched off, breaking the circuit. Try taping a bit of tin foil over the break, it has to be tightly stuck down!
