Hi guys,

My GF and I cannot get her rear view mirror to stay stuck to the windscreen in her Mk5 Fiesta.

We have tried sticky pads from halfords and I have also bought this adhesive/mesh pack designed for this use.

It just won't stick.

We have thorougly cleaned the glass with nail varnish remover before hand.

Is there a recommended product that will stick like ****?

Would be nice if I could do it today too since we're driving daan saath later for a weekend away.

Superglue?

It's how I fixed the one in my ex's clio. :p

That and making sure it was clean, but can't remember what I used. I'd be inclined to make sure there is no trace of the remover there when applying the mirror, so leave it for an hour or so after cleaning.

Also key the back of the mirror slightly, to ensure the glue on whatever is being stuck, does stick. I'd say key the window slightly but that could end in tears. :p

They might charge you a fiver, more likely they'll just tell you to go on your way, especially if you're cute.

Haha

When mine got knocked off I managed to grab some random Auto-Glass guy I saw waiting in a car-park and he did it free for me, took less than 2Mins, I just gave him a fiver for a drink, I'd already wasted about £10 on those useless pads that kept failing...

A friend of mine last year has the same thing with her ford Ka. Went to the local windscreen place and they stuck it on for free. I bet it it would have been a bloke they would have charged.

I used some black paste stuff that my step dad has in the garage that is used to keep the glass windows in oven doors. Mine kept falling off when it got hot, now i feel i could hang off it its set that well. I'll try and find the name of it if I can.

Edit - Its the orange stuff half way down the page http://www.repairproducts.co.uk/page39.htm It took a while to stick but its very solid.

The windscreen place near me are really good.

Last time I went there was to enquire if a crack in my windscreen was too big to repair. It was so they replaced it for a great price, despite me not having my wallet on me (I told them this before they started working on the car).

I just popped back down a little while later and paid, it's nice when they show a little trust in humanity like that!

I will try to pop there on my way out later today. Hopefully they'll stick it up!

Cheers.

I've got some decent double sided foam tape that wouldn't let it fall off, but you're a bit far away for me to give you some Chris :p

I also had problems with the sticky pads, need to get some heat into them to get them to stick properly...I found a hot air gun worked well (heat up all contact areas) :)

has it fallen off before? I had his problem with my mondeo and went the scrappys to get another one. Second one stuck on much easier

as nicRob says, a little heat can make a huge difference. We used to recommend holding a sponge with hot water on the outside until the glass was warm and then using the glue and mesh (pads never used to be that great but may have improved over the years!)

I knocked mine off in a previous car and wasted about 3 of those sticky pads before I took it to a windscreen repair place and and they stuck it properly.....

my mate knocked mine off in my fiesta also mk5, didnt clean the glass or anything, just got a thing from halfrauds with mesh and glue and stuck it back on, been fine for a year nearly now.

As per doofer above, I tried the foam pads, the felt+glue packs, super glue and epoxy resin - all failed. In the end of one of those windscreen guys to fix it with his special UV glue.

I've always used Ford mirror sticky pads. Heat them up slightly and make sure the screen is perfectly clean and dry.

I knocked the rear view mirror of in my mondeo i stuck it back on with some super glue, its not moved since. I go and see what brand it is in a bit.
