Ok...so not on the nail with them being his role models but was correct on the basis of how the names were chosen. Still cliched as hell though

Thought it was because they were Buddy Holly fans and his band was The Crickets, so they picked another insect (but changed the spelling).

Pet Shop Boys:

Band members Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe had friends who worked in a Pet Shop in Ealing and they called them Pet Shop Boys, when they got signed to EMI they stole the name for themselves.
