Reason why games and movies are delayed coming over here?

With games, sometimes the NTSC to PAL translation can take sometime to do. It's something like 6 months between MGS games and often more for Final Fantasy games. It can also give devlopers time to add in region specific content as well as region specific special features.
I think the NTSC -> PAL conversion isn't really an issue with "next-gen" consoles, as the conversion is handled in hardware. I believe this is the case with both the Xbox and 360 and I'm sure will be the case with the PS3 and the Wii.

Localisation is a bit of an issue; the UK is, afterall, part of Europe and not the 51st state.

It's also true that the UK tends to have games being released on a friday, compared to tuesday in the US. I think we get the upperhand on music though with Monday releases....

It's just money, like everything else :(. What really frustrates me is that we seem to get a lot less special edition dvds than the US. I was in Canada last week, and saw loads of special editions in HMV that haven't been released here, and probably never will be. Of course, there was no point in buying them because my dvd player is region locked .

Think about it, Music/Films produced in the Uk are released first in the UK, a lot of games/films/music is created in the US hence the first release date. Makes perfect sense to me.
Some Film/Music distributors are going for simultanious worldwide launches to combat piracy. However these are very expensive, which is why usually things are released on a regional basis.
