Whats a reasonable cost for replacing a rad hose (lower one) and replacing (provided) antifreeze on a vectra at a local garage

Do it yourself. Get down to a Scrappy and pick up the hose for a couple Quid. Then fit the new hose, undoing the 2 jubilee or spring clips. then bang some Antifreeze.water up to the max mark Job done.

I would but I cant get to the damn thing without moving everything else which is too much hastle from me

However if it is goign to be £40/50 I'll have to DIY it I was hoping for £20 mark..

Also would a scrappy really offer much of a cheaper option than new?

EDIT - Just seen the post above

Scrappy will charge you a fiver for the hose,

All you need is a screwdriver to ram down the end of the old hose, the pipe usualy " Welds " itself to the joint on the radiator but it will come off.

I reckon £30 max.

I'm assuming you've had this done and they've charged you something daft like £62.56 ?

Nope, its just gone and need is done ASAP tomorrow morning so havent time to phone 10 places to get a decent quote.

Try asking VXL. See how much it is. If its only Cheap might aswell buy new. If you really dont wanna do it yourself then enquire about them fitting it aswell. It really isnt a hard job at all.

How could you have imagined that its even worth a garage doing a whole job for £20 inc VAT? The hose alone will be most of that, then the garage will have a minimum labour charge time.

If you find a few other niggles you could probably get them done for the same price to use their time up.

Well there is a second air hose that split so I had to cut it nd it only just fits so I guess i could find bits

With respect how are you going to buy and run a £7000 Ford Galaxy if the difference between a £20 repair and a £40 repair is a huge deal for you?

No point in wasting money

My plan if thats the case would be to go to partco or even a main dealer where they will have instant stock. Then i guess i would indeed fit it myself. I wouldnt be banking on a scrap yard unless yours is a good one, my local ones are all useless :(
