Reasonable Price? (Driveway)

Hmm thread is of interest as we'll be getting this done shortly. We definitely don't want a tarmac drive, and I think block paving whilst looking the nicest is far too expensive.

What do people think to gravel/stone chip driveways? I don't like them but the boss is considering it as a cheaper option.

OK so preparing the ground would be roughly the same as a tarmacadam drive.

You would still need a reduced dig, some form of membrane to stop vegetation then a good 150mm sub base of compacted stone, any alterations to services going to and from the property including foul water.

Then remedial work like kerbs and edgings.

To anyone wishing to have a gravel/ stone drive I always recommend a product called Adapave.

adpave

This helps keep the drive level and stops the stone from being dragged into the road.

Keep in mind if you want a stone like Golden Gravel it will be more expensive than say a 10mm limestone as gravels are traditionally dredged from river beds rather than quarried and the process is more expensive.

That looks excellent thanks nick. Will have to see if anyone does it around Cambridge.

As for materials I don't really care. I'm sure she'll have ideas though ;).

Ok have 1 of the quotes in writing, here is the breakdown:

Remove old kerb edgings (7)
Supply new kerbs (7)
Cut existing path
Excavate footpath
lay 150mm type 1
lay 50mm of 20mm DBBC
Lay 30mm of 6mm DBWC

Excavate garden area to a depth of 225mm (approx 22.00m²)
Supply hardcore to proposed driveway to compacted thickness of 0.150mm (approx 22.00m²)
Place and compact tarmac (50mm) of 20mm DBBC followed by (30mm) of 6mm DBSC (approx 22.00m²)
Remove all rubbish and clear site.

total is £3750 + vat.

Nick - are Naylor the only people who sell this? I can't seem to find any other references to it, nor can I find prices.
