I currently have a Gigabyte GTX 970 G1 and was wondering if upgrading to a 1070 or 1080 would be a good idea, I currently game on Battlefield 1 and Witcher III (also ETS and Dawn of War but these aren't pushing the card)?

Any advise would be welcome.
 
Not really so much at 1080p60hz, at 1440p or 1080 120/144hz absolutely.

The other thing is that in BF1, i7 makes a massive difference to that game. An i7+GTX970 will easily outperform an i5+GTX1070 in terms of minimum frames and hold a stable 60fps - something no i5 can do in online 64p conquest.

It would be an upgrade and give you more stable framerates at 1080p ultra in some games but it is a lot of money for not huge gain right now. I'd probably wait it out with the 970 for another while or consider dropping in an i7 for now, which will help hugely with BF1.
