Why oh why do manufacturers make toasters that are too small for normal sized sliced bread? Why can’t they measure a slice of bread?

I use my toaster for crumpets and English muffins. Have been given a free loaf of bread at work as no date printed on the tag. Kingsmill 50/50. The toaster I have, slots are too shallow for this bread. Top 1.5cm pokes out. So i have to stop the cycle, flip the slices and do a cycle.

Budget is £40. I go through toasters. Had toasters that tripped the electricity, handle snapping off, browning control was stuck on lightly toasted etc.

One of the rules of the universe - you can only have two of well made, toasts full size bread, reasonable cost.

We've got a Kenwood Turin toaster which seems to properly toast normal size bread but they don't seem to be sold any more.

I once witnessed in Argos a women who'd brought a slice of bread in a bag and wanting to view multiple toasters to make sure it would fit.

We've got a Breville Edge 2 slice toaster and its a bit taller than others, think it was £35. Had a similar one before which broke after a couple of years so it'll be interesting to see how long this one lasts

There can be only one choice for a top revenue earner

I got this one from that poncy chef.

It works.
if that gives independant on/off on the pairs of slots .. that's half the power consumption of the (appropriately named) duallit .

I've yet to find a toaster where swapping sides at half time doesn't benefit evenness of bread toasting.

That’s without doubt the ugliest toaster I’ve ever seen, who in the hell actually buys those?

It does indeed offer independent power to either side and as we rarely use all the slots at the same time, or even the machine itself, was a good buy.

Am I doing it wrong by ramming a slice in sideways? If frozen then I'll do it vertical for a bit until it can be turned and rammed.
