Reboot and select proper boot device error message

I am trying to install Windows 7 on a new SSD.

I am running fine with a HDD in IDE mode. I unplugged it, booted, went into BIOS, changed to AHCI, put boot priority as DVD then SSD. It shows the correct name of the DVD Drive.

Then it just comes up with the message reboot and select proper boot device.

I burnt the .iso in Nero.... Recorder > Burn Image so Im sure it's burnt fine...

On your motherboard one of the SATA ports should be excluded from the AHCI config, this is the one you will need your DVD drive connected to so you can boot from it.

Also what speed did you burn the ISO? Personally I've used a USB drive to install from for the last few years haven't used a DVD media in a long time. Use this tool and a good quality 4/8Gb USB pen drive.

Also, have you downloaded the AHCI drivers for the motherboard, you will most likely need them for the installation on the SSD

I have an Asus P8Z68-v LX.

I have checked the manual and it says all the SATA ports are set to AHCI by default. I don't think I would need to install any AHCI drivers then? I tried leaving it in IDE mode in BIOS but still same message.

I will try a USB, normally I do too but thought it would be simpler this way...only got a 32GB USB though but I will give it a try.

Just to update:

I couldnt use that app to make the bootable USB, but I used another, Rufus.

This booted fine, went into Windows installation finally. I had an issue where it wouldnt install on the SSD because it was GPT, so I had to convert it to MBR using a few simple commands in command prompt.

About 10 mins later and Windows was fully installed.

SSD is SO fast! Should have upgraded sooner!
