Hye guys, just built my new computer myself. I have the gigabyte Z77 UD3H mobo, samsung 830 128gb SSD and WD Caviar Black HDD.

To cut a long story short, I havent managed to get past that error message on the new build. I have tried using the SSD, which has windows 7 installed on it. I have also tried another hard drive.

Weirdly though, I have tried using the WD drive aswell, which I am using now on my older computer. With the WD solely connected via the 6GB/s sata connection, I still get the same message, even though it works perfectly well on my older computer!

Would be really grateful if someone could help me here!

Many thanks

SSD is recognised in bios and is first in boot order. I dont have a DVD or blu ray drive so only drive in the new build right now is the SSD..

i connected the SSD to the old machine, booted from WD drive and installed windows 7 onto the SSD through the old computer

but then howcome my WD drive doesnt work when i stick that in my new build? lets say i didnt buy an SSD and just wanted to transfer my WD drive to the new build, it would still have that message? howcome it gives the message for the WD drive even though that works fine?

Without knowing exactly how the drives are partitioned, which one is set as active and where all the boot files are it's not possible to say why it's not working. That said even if it was working chances are you'd have all sorts of problems due to hardware differences between the two machines.

That's why it's always recommended to do a fresh install on a new machine.

your wd will have all your old motherboard drivers installed into windows, sometimes it works sometimes it doesnt it depends on the motherboard, you should back up data and do a clean install or do a clean install of windows onto your new ssd

set to ahci in the bios first, install windows then plug your wd hdd in alongside your new ssd and set first boot device as your ssd, then it should work

youll be able to access your old wd drive for what files you need ect

if you have a 4gb usb memory stick microsoft do a tool that makes a bootable flash drive with the windows installer on it.

took literally a minute to install windows onto my ssd using that method
