right my brother has just got a new case for his computer so i went ahead and swoped the inards over in to the new case. the way his mother board was layed out bent i couldnt plug the floppy drive in, so as he didnt use it i didnt bother trying to fit it. i also left out and modem and a tv card which he no longer uses.
anyway after turning it on for the first time i recieved the message

"reboot and selct proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key"

also before this something along the lines of

scan devicesplease wait:
serial ch0 master not found
serial ch1 master not found

in the bios it states the primary ide master is the dvd drive
then when i go in to boot priority the dvd drive is seleccted first if i try to change it there are no options there such as the hard drive.

could anyone give me some advice please im a bit lost as what to do now

motherboard: asus k8v
hard drive: seagate sata

Have you made sure that SATA is enabled and selected as first boot?

I don't know that much about this sort of thing but whenever I mess with my board (Abit AV8) it seems to default to IDE and I have to reselect SATA.

Do you mean the motherboard was bent when it was fitted into the new case?

It should never be noticably bent when fitted (it may flex a bit when you fit expansion cards/memory though), if it is bent then there is a problem that needs to be sorted ASAP as it could be damaging the motherboard or shorting it out, either of which can lead to odd error messages.

If it is bent sort that out before you do anything else with the machine.

Simple solution would be to just put the fdd back in, I dont know how to disable the need for the FDD to be used but if the PC has one then its removed without changing whatever needs to be changed it wont boot.

Look for something like ' bootable addin devices ' in the bios.

Some bios's have it set out like that. XP automaticly sets this when you install it, but sometimes it needs re-setting if you switch parts about.

There will be something in the bios to set the boot priority for sata drives, just have a hunt through.
