Reboot problem

My pc has been acting a bit funny which i suspect might be something to do with the motherboard or power supply. When i shut down my pc sometimes it doesnt turn off but instead reboots. When i switch it on sometimes it shuts off again after 4-5 seconds and immediatlely turns on again after which it is fine.

Mobo: Asus maximus gene z87 version
PSU: Xfx 850watt 80+ bronze non modular

im going to try reflashing my bios when i get home from work but would like input from some tech gurus about what the problem may be

Usually sign of a bad overclock / not enough Volts supplied to the overclock.

It wasn't the overclock. I switched power off from mains, took out the cmos battery for 10 mins. Replaced with a different one. Then i reflashed the bios to the latest one. ran it again on stock settings everything and the problem is still there (wont shut down it just reboots)

That means its either my Memory or gpu. What else could it be after some research i found that my pc is rebooting because of a crash at shutdown.

Just tested my memory with memtest86 for 2 hours did 2 passes so memory seems to be fine, i have a feeling its my GPU i just got it a week ago

Edit: After checking event logs i found these 2

Reformatted my pc and same problem, one other thing i noticed is intel rapid storage technology takes a while to start instead of it been immediate and im getting a lot of errors in event viewer as well as warnings.

Could this be a defunct motherboard? been driving me nuts for 3 weeks now. How i do flash to an older version of bios so i can test it before doing an rma

Nope everything is connected from the start, i got a Crucial m4 128gb. never had this problem on my previous 2500k and z77 mobo. when i get home ill try switching the sata cables / ports and reverting to an older bios setting to rule out them problems

D/load and run SSDLIFE. This will tell you the health, the number of hours it`s been powered on and also what firmware your M4 is using. There is a problem with these drives when they get to 5400hrs. So, you may just need to update your firmware.

Did all that (reverted back to previous bios and ran the ssd health check) and am still having problems, when irst loads up(after like 2-5 mins) it says the service is not running for a while. sometimes when i want to shut down my pc restarts instead

in event viewer i get the error messages "The following boot-start or system start drivers failed to load: ASMTfilter

within having done a clean install of my os i got like 30 errors in 2 hours, havnt got a clue whats going on.

Could this be a possible driver conflict between asmedia asm106x sata host controller and intel rapid storage technology? i only use sata 3 ports so wouldnt need the asmedia right?

did you update the m4 to the latest firmware? seen a spate of m4's freezing lately and needing latest fw to cure it

not mb bios but ssd firmware

It says your ssd firmware does not need updating. im running 004f

Edit: did it manually through bios and updated to firmware 070H. there is a disk 2 error now but im thinking it was because i switched my sata cables. going to do another fresh install tommorow and report back. could this even be a psu problem?

Going to borrow my mates 480 tonight and see if gpu / amd drivers are causing it. ill try to get a hold of some ram as well to rule that out

Another thing i failed to mention before is, when ever i go to boot windows for a fresh install my mouse and keyboard dont work sometimes and i have to reboot twice and eventually they will start working, is that a cause for alarm as well?

i really get the feeling this might be a mobo problem never had a prob with my hard drives before. havnt even used the m4 for 5k hours yet.
