Well, basically I bought a 2nd hand E5300 for my MSI P6N SLI V2 that's lying around for another build. Found that my board's need BIOS version 1.4 for supporting E5300 but the motherboard was only on version 1.3, so I had to install my Q6600 back onto it. Flashed the BIOS to version 1.4 using a floppy no problem, and confirmed the BIOS version is version 4 on boot up.
Taken my Q6600 back out and install the E5300 onto the board, getting the expected cmos error message, pressed F1 to enter set-up/BIOS. I saw the CPU details in the BIOS no problem, and then select Load the Optimised Default as instructed by MSI's guide and saved and exit. It then restarted no problem. But the problem comes after switching on the PC the 2nd time after that...the PC would turn on, but it was stucked with not display and just refuses to boot. Clearing the CMOS would allow me to boot up and go through the "getting the expected cmos error message, pressed F1 to enter set-up/BIOS" process again and would enter BIOS no problem, but again, it will become stuck on switching on the PC 2nd time, even when I don't make any change and just went into BIOS and exit without saving anything. Most of the time even clearing CMOS, the system won't boot up (it will "switch on", but not boot)...I have to unplug the power and take the battery of the motherboard off and leave it lying around for at least a few hours before I can boot successfully again.
Anyone got any idea what is going wrong?
Could it be possible that my motherboard simply doesn't like the E5300, despite MSI has listed it in supported CPU list?
