Hi all,

I have posted here a little while back and I had not decided what to go for as a rebuild. My current machine is about 4/5 year old still going along OK.
I use my present set up mainly for simulating, model making and some photo editing.
I think its about time I brought my computer up to date so I have looked and read the threads here for ideas and this is what I have come up with;-

ATI HD 6970 2GB graphics card ( my current card is GTS250 )
i5 2500K 3.3 @4.4ghz
Asus P8Z68-v Z68 or Gigabyte Z68AP-D3 Z68 MoBo
Kingston or Corsair 8GB memory 1600 DDR3
Corsair A50 CPU cooler
Artic Silver 5 thermal compound

I have a case, 500Gb sata HDD, Optical drive and Corsair Power supply 620watt which I would like to use along with a retail boxed Windows7 64bit OS which I assume I can reuse on this new build.
Speakers and a Samsung SyncMaster2233 monitor I already have.
One other question about the CPU I dont quite understand the 4.4ghz, is this speed gained only by editing the Bios?
The communities advice and help would be appreciated.

Kind regards
Mike

yes the 4.4gh is overclocked speed, is that a ocuk overclocked bundle?
I'd suggest getting seperate and overclocking yourself.

whats your budget? as yiou may benfit from the i2600k/i2700k

YOUR BASKET
1 x MSI ATI Radeon HD 6970 2048MB Twin Frozr III GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card **Supplied with Dirt 3 & Deus Ex PC Games** £267.95
1 x Intel Core i7-2700K 3.50GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor - Retail £263.99
1 x Kingston HyperX Genesis Grey 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (KHX1600C9D3X2K2/8GX) £29.99
1 x Gelid Tranquillo CPU Cooler (Socket 754/939/940/AM2/AM2+/AM3/LGA775/LGA1155/LGA1156/LGA1366) £25.99
Total : £599.32 (includes shipping : £9.50).

if your budget can't stretch to the i2600k/i2700k then get the i2500k

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CP-368-IN

saves you £94, this is for the oem version(i.e. 1yr warranty no stock cpu cooler) the retail(3yrs warranty, stock intel cpu cooler) i2500k is £185 which makes the saving £77

whats your current case? can it support a 310mm long graphics card? the graphics card speced is 310mm so you need a case that can fit it.

Hi fowler002,

Thank you for the quick reply, I was thinking around the 600 mark as budget.
I don't know where to start with overclocking.
My case is an "icute", I would have to cut out a 25mm slot across the Hdd bays not difficult to do.
Probably better to have a new case for this setup, going over budget, but if its going to last a few years it has to be worth it.

Regards
Mike
