Put a new motherboard in the other day (and CPU / SSD) and didn't degrade the RAID1 I had.
Now the new board is in and all setup, I have the IRST drivers/software installed.

How do I rebuild my RAID1 without formatting both disks? I cant see anything in the IRST software to rebuild the RAID leading me to believe I HAVE to do it via the BIOS... :(

Board is a GA Z68XP-UD3. Drives are plugged into the Intel SATA ports.

PS: I only see one drive in Windows Explorer. I THOUGHT the RAID may have recreated itself somehow, but in DISKMANAGMENT the 2nd drive is OFFLINE due to the same signature or something of the other drive.

Any help much appreciated :)

I need to keep the data, if I have to transfer it all to another drive then I will, not that I have another drive big enough!

Old drives were on a Gigabyte P55-UD3.

Edit: I can't even get the raid in the bios to recognise the drives on the new board... Even though they are fine in Windows.
BIOS up to most recent F6 version.

Haha,yes.
PCH SATA Controller is set to AHCI (for the SSD and dvddrive)
GSATA3 Ctrl Mode is set to RAID.
Drives are plugged into GSATA3_6/7.

Was the RAID array set up on the the Gigabyte ports or the Intel ports on the old motherboard?

If it was on the Intel ports before then you need to use the Intel ports now to have any chance of the RAID array being recognised.

Even then...

Can you reinstate your old board and get the data somewhere safe? Would be infinitely less frustrating and risky

There's nothing to stop you reconstructing your old setup, and then copying the data to another drive, as long as you still have all the components and the boot drive.

They RAID array was on the Gigabyte ports on the old board. As the intel ports were preferred for my SSD.

So is this array not recoverable at all? I have so much stuff on the drives need. Steam games to start with!

The Gigabyte SATA ports on your new motherboard are actually from a Marvell controller.

I can't find what controller the Gigabyte ports are on your old motherboard but it may be something completely different in which case the existing array couldn't be restored.

If you've set the Gigabyte SATA to RAID on your new board then you should see a screen saying "Press <Ctrl-G> to enter RAID Setup Utility" during the boot process.

Press Ctrl-G at this point and you'll access the Gigabyte RAID setup utility.

If your disks are shown on there as a recognised RAID array then I would suggest installing the Marvell RAID drivers and you might be able to access the data.

If they're just shown as individual disks then the new Gigabyte RAID can't recognise the old Gigabyte RAID probably because they're different controllers.

If the array isn't recognised in the Gigabyte setup utility then:

1) Try physically disconnecting one of the disks which were in the RAID array. The conflict with the second disk will hopefully go away and you might be able to access the data on the single disk.

If that fails then:

2) Rebuild your old setup so that you can hopefully access the data and back it up to a separate drive.

Edit

FYI in future just use the Intel ports. You're much more likely to be able to carry over an array from one Intel system to another Intel system doing that.

But what you really should do is back up your data before even attempting to transfer a RAID array between systems.
