I have a raid 0 array set up on the rig in my sig. I have purchased some new bits today including an EVGA nForce 650i Ultra. Does anyone know if I'll be able to rebuild my stripe on this new board, or will I have to build a new one and reinstall?

Anyone know??

I'm not sure what you are asking?

Are you asking do have to rebuild your raid because you have upgrades or will your have to buy a new mobo? or have you bought a new mobo?

Erm, that's a weird one. Only problem I could see is if you have to add the RAID to the new board...Which obviously you will have to, but then I'm not sure if it will wipe all the content off the drives.

At work I've managed to 'migrate' a RAID setup to a new controller...So hopefully you can do that.

Only thing you can do is try really, plug in the new drives, in the SAME order as they are on your current setup, then go into the RAID setup on the new board and see if you can literally add the old array. Infact the controller might even pick up the existing drives and say theres a raid on them, what do you want to do type thing?

Up to you what you want to try I guess. Either way if you do get the setup working, your going to have to re-install chipset drivers and thing's arent you?

you will need to recreate the raid and reinstall as its a different controller and you cant transfer the raid config from one system to another

Sounds like I'll have to rebuild from scratch. Thanks guys, was just wanting to know what to expect. When I changed motherboards before I had a raid, I plugged everything in and it just kinda worked and installed all the correct drivers etc. Was hoping it'd be that simple, but I guess I'll have to reinstall. Its probably about time anyway

Not necessarily...It is possible to re-add the raid, indeed it doesen't work always, depends how good the RAID card is really.

Obviously It's probably more useful if the two RAID chips are from the same 'Family' so to speak.

Going from an NForce4 to a 650i board gives you as good a chance as any of being able to retain the RAID config.

Having said that though you're going to be better off doing an OS reinstall anyway so I'd just backup and start again, it's going to be less hassle in the long term.
