it's for my dad, he wants to use it for basic stuff, internet, emails, printing invoices
how much for something that is reasonable fast + reliable
needs to be easy to use (if there is such a thing)
budget isnt really an issue but I told him about £400, want to get the best for the money though, without having things that he will never use
any suggestions ? :)

edit - just thought of something else, the screen to be as big as possible

I'm thinking about just getting one of the samsung ones off here for him
I am pretty clued up about pc'd but never looked in to laptops...I've never used Vista, which all the new laptops come with, as opposed to XP, am I right in thinking 2GB RAM is a minimum for vista?
its just ive seen quite a few being sold with 1GB and the vista os.

its bigger than it looks when you actually get it. i thought it looked tiny, but when you use it its quite big (not like a 15" or anything but its big enough for browsing, emails and basic games

it's for my dad, needs a decent size screen...

would you recommend samsung then ? do they have a good reputation?
think im gonna get one of the 15inch screen ones for him...

From my very limited knowledge of laptops I would say samsung are good. Theres a thread with neally 100,000 views for the NC10, loads of good reviews and today when we picked one up after reserving from a catalogue place 3 people had reserved yesterday when we did.
The screen is definately big enough, my dad was most worried about the screen being small but was impressed when he opened it.

Id say the top 3 laptop makes would be Dell, Samsung and Toshiba. He had a satellite pro years ago and a dell before that. The NC10 notebook is small enough for him to carry around/take on holiday to use the net for a bit but also have a big enough screen for him to edit web pages

I am using an Asus X59gl-Ap006c now and I love it, needs more ram though.
Mine cost £359.

Only has a 15" screen though, so not what your dad wants maybe.
