reccomend a router

A router with built in ADSL modem is called a Gateway or Wireless Gateway with WiFi as well. I use the SpeedTouch 780WL which is a Multi User VOIP and Data Gateway, probably overkill for most people's needs.

I have used the Linksys Wireless-G Gateway and it was easy to setup and install. It only costs about £50 too.

Any particular budget (or any other criteria) in mind - I'm happy with my Cisco 877, but starting at ~£300 it might be a bit much.

Wireless and the option to connect wired machines isn't much of a stretch - damned few routers come with less (or more :p) than 4 switch ports now.

The 585's mostly decent, but IIRC the later firmware's fairly rotten.

Is there anyway of rolling back firmware with this kit - I'm using the latest version, but it does seem pretty wobbly :(

Starting to wish i hadn't upgraded now...

What problems are people seeing on the 585v6 latest firmware? I can't say I've had any, apart from maybe it's reluctance to drop the dsl signal, I've never had it drop once even with zero dB.

Sometimes the Internet light just drops out and I have to reboot to get a connection. The DSL light though remains constant :(

Never had a single problem with the previous firmware, and I think I used to sync slightly higher :)

So, is there anyway of going back? If so, could someone send me the previous firmware, because I appear to have deleted mine :p

Yep. In my opinion this router with the latest firmware is trying too hard to hang on to the dsl sync when it should just drop and resync, this is why a few people are seeing what you're seeing, PPP session dies but sync stays up.

Is there anyway back for me then :(

sorry I mean't to link the v6 first.... Do a factory reset before and after loading the new firmware. I've never flashed to a previous firmware myself.
In the end I downloaded the 6.1.0.5 from the Dutch Speedtouch site, and it all went fine :)

I haven't done any factory resets though :(

Do you think I still should? Is that done through the web interface or from the back of the unit... Or both?

Thanks,

SW.

Funnily enough - the problem I have with my speedtouch is described above.

It keeps sync but no connectivity - i.e. the sync remains but the net goes down. It bugs me as it does this usually once per day. I'm on the 6.1.4.3 UK firmware. Which firmware doesn't have this issue? I'll look into 6.1.0.5 though as Sam seems to have had joy with that but there is a 6.1.9.x on that website....

I've only had it on a day, but so far so good :)

I had the No Internet/Still Syncing issue with the 6.1.4.3 too :(

I'm going to give this one a try and then gradually upgrade if necessary.

Where have you seen the 6.1.9.x firmwares?

Cheers,

SW.
