It's on the m8s's website (here). I have just, in fact, flashed my ST585v6 to 6.1.9.6 from his website. It was released by ST on the 29th Sept 2006 and works fine on my router. There was a little heart stopping moment during the flash (it said the router was not responding after programming about 75% of the software - I used the windows flasher) but all I did was login using 192.168.1.254 as normal and the programming had already completed anyway and the fact I am typing to you is a testament to this!

He is trustworthy - I checked the whirlpool webbies in Oz and he is a registered member there and he gets the firmwares from http://www.thomsontelecompartner.com/en/products/viewanaccessproduct.php?id=104 as he uses a company ID to login and host the files for us. Fairly solid really. I'll let you know on the sync/no 'net issue if you are unhappy about upgrading now but it seems ok for me. I'm running wirelessly too, with WPA2 so I'm not using settings anywhere near default.
However, as we are still unsure on the status of this firmware, please do not rely on me as evidence - I'm sure I'm going to hit a snag somewhere. I'll be a guinea pig for now though, as that bug really does bug me.
EDIT: Update - I have to say, my wireless throughput is greatly increased on this firmware - now whether this is down to BT fixing my exchange VP which has been RED for a few weeks, or whether my firmware has actually caused the increase, I do not know. In any event, I've gone from 2.7Mbps to 3.7Mbps - and my wireless always used to get 1mbps down on ethernet connected stations - something I've tested.
