Receive Outlook E-mails Through Gmail

So I used to happily receive hotmail and virgin media e-mails quite happily through gmail, however my hotmail (now outlook.com) e-mails no longer go via gmail. I'm sure I read somewhere that they've (Microsoft) have stopped this, is this true?

If it can do POP3 then it should come through gmail fine: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-GB/windows/outlook/send-receive-from-app

Don't think so. Mine are still coming through. Have you tried reconnecting the account?

I keep getting authetication failed from within GMAIL, yet I can login to my account fine via outlook.com.

Have you turned two-step authentication within Outlook? If yes then you would need to generate an app password for Gmail to use.
