Receiving channels from foreign countries?

Hi, anyone here receiving channels from other countries? I know about a website which offers a non-subscription service, just a payment of about £200. I was just wondering if anyone here has/had something similar? It's totally legit right?

Thanks.

Actually, unless that website is authorised by the broadcasters concerned, it's almost certainly illegal. I could consider such authorisation to be highly unlikely, at least in respect of any UK-based channel.

Its easy do you have an idea what language you are looking for? I assume its legit as long as your not descrambling something without paying. I don’t know if card sharing is legal. I assume not

Fair few companies will let you pay a years sub for a foreign package which this may be. Alternatively it could be a scam.

But yeah, post here about what languages you want and we can help out. For what its worth the eutelsat hotbirds at 13e are worth a shot for most european stuff.

There was a guy that did the local computer fairs around here (Stoke) that sold all the kit you needed for around the £200 mark. I don't know if he still does the fairs as I haven't been to any for a few months. You would know he was there by the 1M dish outside the marquee.

Well i have German ad Spanish TV subscribed to my house so i can view my favourite programs :p

You could look at the websites for the certain channels you want i think. I just used a box that we had in Germany in England.

Well the language that I'm interested in is Portuguese - mainly looking for the channels from Brazil.

Here is the website (I hope i'm not breaking any rules) -

I have seen plenty of websites which allow you to stream the channels, but I don't want to be stuck in front of a computer for longer than I have to be. ;)

Kroegen - Would you mind sharing how you went about getting those channels, cost etc...

Thanks.

Well in Germany we still had our sattilite contract, so we got a sat dish pointed it in the right direction and still pay monthly for the tv.

Okay - and the Spanish TV?

I really would like to know if anyone knows if that site is legit, and if it's all legal. :(

The legalities are a little confussing, if the satellite channel is free to air, or if you purchase a legit card for it, then its legal as far as the broadcaster is bothered :p its gets confusing because the broadcaster may not have the rights to broadcast to UK viewers, take football for example, BskyB have almopst exclusive rights in the UK and have in the past taken pubs that have received their broadcasts from a forgein company to court, the chances of that if you are in your own living room are pretty unlikely. Also remember that not all content is like this, and even if the broadcaster lacks uk rights for the content, unless there is another company with those rights, then its very unlikely that there will be anyone trying to make sure that no one else sells that content to uk people.

Anyway, its quite an interesting hobby I'm told, its not like sky where you get it because you want tv, you get it because you want to play with it :p

Ok thanks. The website looks legit I suppose, but the last thing that I want is to spend that amount of money on something that's illegal or/and not very reliable.

At a glance I would be wary given that there is no mention of VAT, a registered company number, only a phone number for contact, no address given, etc. Also, if you follow the principle of "you don't get something for nothing" you're either going to be getting a lot of free (crap) foreign television or you'll be paying the price of illicit/illegal activity and any risk that entails.

Its true that its going to be forgein material, but I think quite a lot of the films are just subtitled english (or rather americian) versions, and porn is much the same whatever language its in ;) (and I'm told that the restrictions on what exactly can be shown are less rigerous then they are over here), so if thats your thing... usually have to buy a subscription for that though

[no its not something I play with, but I have talked to people online who do :o ]

Might be worth picking up a copy of 'what sattelite' at the newsagent?

After some research I keep coming across something called "hotbird" which MuvverRussia mentioned earlier - what's it all about?

hotbird is a group of satellites at 13 degrees east of due south ran by eutelsat. Basically they're pan europe and carry all sorts of stuff- check out lyngsat.com

The main satellites are 19E (Astra), 16E (Eutalsat), 13E (Hotbird), 5E (sirius), 1W (Thor) and 30W (Hispasat).
All these satellites carry transmissions rather like our SKY but not on big a scale (except SKY italia on 13E).
One of the best packages in an Albanian one on 16E called Digi-Alb which shows up to date films, Premier football and of course hardcore porn.
13E is the best overall satellite and I get stations such as ART Sports which shows premier football which SKY doesn't get.
Theres at least 28 hardcore porn channels on 13E but I only watch normal films and football :)

I've been into Satellite TV for at least 20 years and installed dozens for other people. I've gone through many systems but I'm now settled on a receiver called a Dreambox with a motorised dish. Tis a truly wonderful machine.

BTW, Fireblade900, I wouldn't touch the stuff the bloke sells at fairs with yours. The number one guy lives in Normacot.

There are a lot of free channels on the interweb now. I use a few sites that link some together. As you say though there is a lot of porn funding it.

I could send a link but I guess a mod may want to look at it first/last ;)

You seem to know your stuff...would it be possible for me to get some channels from Brazil then?

Thanks.

the main brazillian sats will be below the horizon, e.g. the brazilsats at 65w and 70w. So nope, even with a huge dish.

Might be able to get some stuff in europe if its on a sat thats atlantic or european, plus you might get into problems with C band stuff (all european stuff is ku band for direct to home transmission). C band = a huge dish etc (talking metres and metres). So its not really feasible.

Ah :(

So what do you make of this then -

A load of rubbish?

EDIT: Just realised they don't actually do Brazil, but they do Portugal, which is something I will settle for. They can do Egypt and China etc but they can't do Brazil
