Receiving channels from foreign countries?

seems kosher, but it also looks to me as if they're just selling the boxes and dishes for free to air transmissions. If you want free to air stuff you can get it a bit cheaper than £200 (although if that includes installation its not _that_ bad...)

edit- reason for egypt and china is that middle east sats can be viewed from the UK and also there is some chinese stuff on hotbird.

Portuguese stuff is easy to get though, should be some on hotbird or maybe hispasat.

Ok thanks, so I'm jusy paying for channels which are actually free in the country? If I was to get the extra channels such as documentaries/sports/movies what would I do?

you're not paying to receive them, you're paying to buy the dish and receiver etc or so it seems to me.

If you want to subscribe to a package you'll need a box that can take the appropriate CAM (conditional access module, popular ones are the likes of Irdeto, Viaccess etc). Or a dreambox, but this is a grey area, especially since some companies don't allow foreign subscriptions *cough* bskyb *cough*.

Thanks for the information...I'm actually on NTL at the moment, it would still work with this right? :o

I see Hot Bird 2 at 13.0°E has loads of Italian channels, but I can't seem to fo find any that pick up any channels from Portugal. Also, how much are you guys paying?

I believe Portugese stuff is on 30W

I've got hotbird, a lot of the channels are free, good if you want to see spanish/french/german television for instance, others need subscription, some of the pr0n channels

Sorted him out on email.
He's going down to ******** to buy a £49 receiver that he can plug into his old SKY dish that is still pointing at 19E (Astra).
On here is a Portugeuse channel called RTP1 which I looked at last night and if he can get that he's then going to look into getting the other 8 channels which requires a bigger dish and a motor.
