Recent plot and character driven games

Might be laughed at a bit, but have you tried Fable 2?? Not an amazing narative by any stretch of the imagination but most of it is geared around the story. (Unless I'm looking at it with rose-tinted glasses as it's been a while since I played through it...)

Persona but you've played those.
The only thing I can reccommend is Xenogears/Xenosaga which are truly legendary story driven games but for some reason neither Squaresoft nor Namco Bandai released any of them in Europe (But they did in America)
Xenosaga Episode II was the only one released in Europe.

My brother has Xenosaga Episode 2, and it comes with a DVD movie showing what happened in Xenosaga 1.
I've never been able to play it unfortunately due to not being able to watching thrown together cutscenes that were an attempt to fill us in on backstory.

I really cant think of any story heavy games. I really liked Last remnants but it needs to be installed to the HD, Or even better get the PC version.

What about the Dot Hack games? They are on the PS2 though and it's a little difficult to get your hands on them now but they're well worth it!I know you've probably played them but I've got the first 2 spare if you're interested?

Character driven, with lots of intresting people and a great story. I really can't think of a better suggestion. Kind of unknown aswell so I'm doubting if you will have played it. Really suggest you pick it up as it seems right up your street.
If you haven't got a gamecube, you can pick one up for next to nothing on that auction site.
