Recieved the wrong graphics card today (I think)

As far as i know the whole XT, XTX, GT format was dropped by at in favour of a numbering system to make it less confusing over which card is better.

"AMD has also decided to drop PRO, XT, GT, XTX from their future HD 3000 series graphics cards. The last 2 digits of the model name will determine the performance of the card. For example RV670PRO will be known as Radeon HD 3850 while RV670XT will be known as Radeon HD 3870 when they are launched on November 15th."

Its cheaper to make one generic box & use it for a variety of similar but different cards than to make a number of different type of boxes. Often though stickers are added to show the differences.
In regards to the differnet 3870 cards Sapphire has, that is.

Too slow 3870 = XT

And if that was me id be really happy about getting that card :)

Pixel Fillrate 12.4GP/s, Texture Fillrate 12.4GT/s, Bandwidth 72.0GB/s

install the drivers and see

Im installing the drivers now... ocuk need to update their page tbh. The card hasnt come with any of these magical free games or software - just a driver disk
 
What can I say? Thankyou so much guys! :p I didn't realize I was so much of a noob but oh my Gears of War runs at a solid 60fps and comparing that to my 2900XT it ran about 40!
 
This is what I posted in another thread........
It wont be a dual slot card m8, cos I ordered my sapphire 3870 expecting it to be dual slot, but when I got it, it was only a single slot card. Its cos sapphire has upgraded there card and apparntly its ment to run cooler then a dual sloted card. OCUK or where ever your buying it from, will not have updated the picture to the newer sapphire 3870 version. False Advertising, get them changed!!!

Thats the similar card to mine, Its ment to have much better cooling then the dual slotted cards. My idel temps are 37-43, cos when it reaches 43c or over the fan kicks in until the temp drops to 37c then turns off.. If will cause less dust I guess, but the fan kicks in every few mins, cos when the fan turns off at 37c, the temps then slowly climbs back up to 43c then the whole process starts again. Its a tad annoying when the fan kicks in every few mins, but the fan isnt very load, so its ok.
 
The slower clocks are the 2D clocks, when you go into 3D they ramp up.

There IS NO XT, ATI don't use Pro/XT stuff anymore and just numbers. The sellers like OCUK just put it on anyway cos it sounds cool.
 
hmm dillemas

cant decide between a couple of these 3870's or get one of those cheap 3870x2 thats around atm, i have a x38 board

maybe even get a 3870x2 now and a 3870 a bit later when the gf has calmed down :)
