I'm sure I speak for Grrrrr as well as myself that Josh Wink - Higher State Of Consciousness is a very good EDM track :)

May as well give you my current top ten:

1. Thrillseekers - By Your Side
2. K : DE - 4th Floor
3. Yellow Blackboard - Superfly (Greed vs Mental X)
4. Double V - Moscow Morning (Vadim Zhukov New Year Mix)
5. George Acosta - Mellodrama (Gareth Emery)
6. Robimon - Aquatic
7. Sun Decade - Have It All
8. Luminary - Amsterdam (Smith & Pledger)
9. Mirco de Govia - Vital Spark
10. Recluse - Emotional Void

The problem with dance tunes now is that there isn't any good one's this past 5 odd years ago. From the mid 90's to around 2000 or so, the dance music scene was fantastic and I've yet to hear a fantastic one since then.

There is the odd good one but it never puts a patch or the old one's.

Wrong, plain and simple, it's not my opinion it's fact.

There are hundreds of superb tracks across all genres of dance music that have been released since 2001.The only difference between now and 99/2000 is that you actually have to look for it rather than being spoon fed it by the radio.

And here ladies and gentlemen, is an example of the most frequently encountered form of short sightedness you shall witness. There have been hundreds of quality tracks over the past few years, and the flux of tuneage shows no sign of slowing.

Time to shed the nostalgia :)

I'm not really sure why but this song really doesn't do anything for me, it's very well produced though. I get the impression it's a 'grower'. The Martin Roth Remix (despite using loads of elements of 'This is the last time') is great though :)

This man is on the ball. Anyone who thinks we are wrong, prove it by naming a song as technically brilliant as Chicane - Halcyon or Darude - Sandstorm. Change because people like listening to junk now does not mean that we have evolved, just that we have devloved.

I could name a dozen off the top of my head. Try this for size Way Out West - Killa (Original mix) released on their album 'dont look now' in 2004, i doubt you'll find a better produced track. Seriously find that track, ignore whether you like the track or not but listen to all the layers and textures and sounds blended perfectly together. Then when you agree that it makes a mockery of sandstorm and is even better produced than the mighty chicane* i'll name some more tracks just to emphasise my point

* for what it's worth despite being a a great track 'halycon' was stolen from orbital

Actually sod it i'm gonna prove my point even more :p

BT (Brian Transeau) is a fantastic producer. He edits every single note, drum beat etc from every instrument used to precisely (we're talking nanoseconds here) the note length required for EVERY single track he makes. He manually edits drum kicks, hihats, EVERYTHING to exactly the right frequency on EVERY single track he makes. He uses unreal note values (notes that can't be written using traditional music techniques) and has pioneered/invented numerous edm techniques. He doesn't use midi because it's 'only' accurate to milliseconds and he works with mathematicians to ensure a sequence of music he is produces is perfectly right. Oh and he can play LOADS of instuments, he can sing AND conduct a full 300 piece orchestra. Basically BT is the man.

Here is an tiny example of what i'm talking about BT - Last Moment Of Clarity, from his album 'Emotional Technology'. Listen to the sounds at the beginning that are almost like raindrops. That sound was recorded during a thunderstorm outside his house with a looping drum beat sound coming from his studio. He took the raindrops and edited EVERY single drop to 1/256th of a note and that recording runs though the entire track.

Another example, he was casually working on a track (i forget which one) with a friend/vocalist in a field and with his acustic guitar. They wrote the track and lyrics and after working on in the studio somehow it didn't sound right to him. Solution? He went back to the field and recorded the ambient noise and bullfrogs croaking and layed it underneath the track.

Another example; he completely altered some of the lyrics from a vocal recording for the final release, not by getting the singer to resing the song but by using the sylables from other words to make the new lyrics

EDIT\\ i can't belive i'm comparing BT to darude - sandstorm :(

Yes there are some fantastically produced tracks out there but they aren't tracks that you'll add or I would add to my list of all time great tracks. They just have no spark.

When I was at Trance Energy last month in Holland, it was fantastic but again no new tracks that have that spark unfortunately but then would argue, it was a trance event.

You didn't ask for spark you asked for 'techincal brilliance' and there's no point in me listing tracks that i think have spark (don't bother replying saying 'because you can't think of any') because that all comes down to opinion.
