Recomendation for a Netflix streaming device.

They last for ages in a controller, controllers are designed for constant use, so a few button clicks every hour or so is nothing.

They don't in mine.

In any case, my point is you'll need to spend extra money on the Xbox to get it to the same level of usability as a regular media device.

Not my fault if my controller eats batteries. I've long suspected it's faulty though as they seem to die even when it's not in use.

My original point still stands, in any case.

I found that my older white controller from the original Xbox eats through batteries, while my black one that came with the Slim lasts for quite a while. Bought the wireless charger, as well as the plug and charge kit and their battery life is excellent. On the other hand the PS3 controller just charges with any old mini USB cable, and you can really preserve the battery life if you set it to automatically switch off after x minutes. Of course that does make it kind of annoying for home theatre use having to turn it back on all the time :p

I don't think it matters if the 360 burns through AA batteries or not, the point is it's an extra consumable item unless you want to pay extra for a battery pack and charger, whereas the Dual Shock 3 already utilises an integrated battery, it's one less thing to worry about. Not to mention there's no online subscription needed besides the Netflix sub, and the fact that Super HD is available on the Playstation already whereas the 360 is still waiting for that functionality.

My money would go on the PS3, I'd pick up a cheap second hand Slim which does everything the OP asked for.

Either way, you're still stuck trying to use a controller as a remote. The Bluetooth remote is one of the best things you can get if you use your PS3 for media.

Certainly, I wasn't disputing that, I was just saying that the OP seems to want something that meets his criteria within the budget, rather than being forced into buying extras on top. The media remote is fantastic but it isn't essential, extra batteries for the 360 controller are essential, an XBL Gold sub is also essential, bit of a joke in my opinion but there we go.

This

I haven't changed my batteries in over a year on my remote and it's just awesome for blu-ray and netflix usage.
