Recommand Raid Controller

SAS PCI-E 8-port hardware RAID controller for ~£250; sounds too good to be true!

I've just checked on a (pricey but good stock range) site I usually use for this kind of stuff and they're identical price so sounds like you're getting a good deal.

£257 to be exact, yeah its a good deal and getting the motherboard for £102 plus postage is good too.

Now, i've just got to wait 2 weeks before i form my new company, resign from my permanent job and take the plunge on my own as an independant VMware contractor. I'll get the rest of the kit through the company then, save on VAT and its tax deductable.

Thats what I do at the moment. I run a company in my spare time (I still have a day job though :() and use it to buy components without paying VAT or any other tax. You can register for VAT no matter how much your company makes. There's tons of other stuff you can claim on too like mobile phone, broadband, etc.

Its a hard choice to quit your day job and run your own business full time. If I didn't have a mortgage I'd have done that already. Instead it'll be a bit longer for me until I can guarantee myself some longer term contracts.

Seriously, all the very best in getting that up and running. You have to take some risks in life to get anywhere.
 
Loads of VMware contracts out there, as long as you don't mind spending time away from home. Quite a few contracts in general, although i'm hoping my first one will be direct with a customer rather than through an agency.
 
I'm a web application developer so all of my work is home-based.
