Starting to look for a weekend car, and I would prefer a convertible. Car will be garaged through most of the winter months.

I have no preference on make, model, colour etc. Just looking for a bit of fun.

Unfortunately, my budget is only £12,000, no finance required..

Thanks

Given you have no preference on make or model, I'd go for this and have some change for mods.

That or an S2000 with a supercharger.

S2000 all day long at this price.

Z4M would be a close second.

Sadly not much TVR for this money any more.

Unless you’re desperate to own a Boxster I would take the Honda or BMW over one at this budget.

Whilst I really like the MX5 a lot, the S2000 is much rarer and is really very special to drive in comparison.

The fact he's even asked this question suggests something like a Z4M with all the expense it brings is somewhat overkill. Honestly it really seems like an MX5 is ideal.

Cheers guys

My initial thought was the Z4, didn’t realise you could get such good deals out there at the moment. But someone above piqued my interest with a Porsche Boxter, what’s everyone’s thoughts on one of those for the price range, is it worth taking the risk?

Compared to a much more modern MX-5 though, the S2000s handling isn't all that amazing. They are old cars now.

You could pick up a 986 boxster for 5 grand but I'd expect it's servicibg/maintenance would put you off. I had a 996 carerra and a turbo and quite a lot of the parts are shared. I'd expect coffin arms would need doing (could be a grand), maybe need new clutch (my carerra was 700 quid). Although saying that is you've got 12 grand that's a bit more budget for repairs. I have been wondering for something a bit more fun than my m3 (which replaced the turbo) and people seem to rate my f/tfs (although I think you might need to be old and enjoy wearing sandles with socks:D).
