Recommend a car with a twist - bit of maths required

Wow. VPower, and Optimax before it, have been over a £1 for over a year round may way at least I'm sure.

Have to wonder why you bother using vpower? Yes the manual states that its preferable, but my S430 runs perfectly and gets 25mpg+ constantly on normal 93.9 UL...is the 500 any different? I assume they are similar engines.

Well my manual states it is a requirement (well 97 RON anyway) rather than preferrable, with the engine able to run on 95 octane in "emergencies" or some such nonesense. That sort of statement scares me into filling it with the expensive stuff plus I've always assumed that the engine management is smart enough to do what it has to do to take advantage of the better fuel.

Mondeo TDCi but whether it would suck compared to a CL500 is a different kettle of fish.

While clearly not in the same league, I'm not going to be overly concerned with quality of interior materials used or how gadget laden it is. Thus far essential things I find I use on my commute are:

  • Aircon (in the summer)
  • Heated Seats (in the winter)
  • Auto Box
  • CD player
  • Suspension that doesn't break my back on every bump

Feasible in a Mondeo TDCi (or indeed the Skoda recommended) for 5K?

Ever thought of getting an LPG powered car:

Current Car
60000 (Miles) / 19 (MPG) = 3157.894737 (Gallons Used)
3157.894737 x 4.546 = 14355.78947 (Litres Used)
14355.78947 x 1.079 (£ per litre) = £15489.90

Potential LPG Car
60000 (Miles) / 30 (MPG) = 2000 (Gallons Used)
2000 x 4.546 = 9092 (Litres Used)
9092 x 0.40 (£ per litre) = £3636.8

As exampe, i had a Vectra 1.8 - purchased with LPG conversion already done - 420miles cost £20 appx at £0.36p/ltr - appx 32mpg

Currently run two cars on LPG.

Total Savings
15489.90 - 3636.8 = £11853
