Recommend a first build PC with my son

You could look at 7500F bundles* to keep costs down, although be aware that some of the lower end motherboards available on the cheaper end are going to limit your future upgrade options.

To be totally honest, I'd save another £100-200 and opt into a B650/7600 combo.

Given what you've stated about wanting to make changes in the future, I'd totally rule out Intel or any of the AM4 options, AM5 is here to stay for a good few years yet.

*You can actually get a 7500F/32gb of 5600-6000 RAM/B650 for a little over £400 which would be a fantastic choice.

Looks good, could get a cheaper gen3.0 NVME if you don't need 4.0 speeds. 2TB ~£90, 1TB ~£50 if you don't need the extra space and that board has plenty of room to grow!

You could also get a cheaper B650 and add WiFi if that helps with budget.

Just to be clear, this is for 1080p gaming. The card averages 49fps for 1440p...if you after that then you'll have to look at the 7600 card(new gen). It £240 ish but is 25% faster and can av over 60fps at 1440. if you did that, you could drop to 1tb ssd, and price would even out..
Couldn't really find it much cheaper..found elsewhere the 7600 for £189 and the same tuf board(factory refurb) for £159...they had 32gb corsair vengeance rgb 6000C36 Expo on offer for £106 in stock also (as al alternative)
Doesn't seem to be many offers on psu's at mo unfortunately..remember, that one has 5yrs warranty only, so although it's seasonic, it not their top of line stuff, but then reflected in price..i know youstretched budget but I'd prefer fully modular with longer warranty if you're keeping it for 5yrs plus, but then with no offers, not a lot of choice..
Alternative is the 2tb crucial p5 plus also for £114, but again on order as sold out here currently
Think above makes a great first pc though...think your son will be very happy

thanks all, we had a chat and currently we are considering postponing buying the GPU because we think the 6600 is underpowered and should continue to save for a 7600xt w/12gb. Meantime he can use the inbuilt graphics on the cpu to do the other stuff he wants to do (coding, learn blender, school work) and play minecraft and CSGO.
When he gets the proper card he wants to play siege, fortnite, project zomboid, god of war, last of us and online stuff like COD.

I stretched budget on the PSU and went for seasonic looking for longevity and no hassles, I think that is worth it on a PSU as that is a painful thing to deal with when it goes wrong (and I am going to be tech support here). What would you go for if we pushed budget further?

It's a yes from me, but don't decide on the GPU until you're ready to buy it, things change.

Also consider buying 2nd hand, it'll always have a resale value so you probably won't lose the full amount. The iGPU really won't be great for gaming and he'll get bored really quickly without a discrete card.

Personally I think a Seasonic with a 5yr warranty is fine and still better than 90% of what most people buy. Some of the NZXT PSUs are basically Seasonics, but not sure they are still around. Had to buy mine privately.

That PSU isn't actually built by Seasonic, but the Phanteks AMP is, or the Focus GX. Rog Strix (original version, don't know about the Aura) and EVGA G6 are also Seasonic, though I doubt you'll find either cheaper than the AMP.

So long as he's aware how limited his gaming will be on the IGP.

Don't forget to look around at pricing, deals sites are good. Even expired deals for say an OEM 7600X may still be cheaper than the 7600 you were looking at.
