Hi

I got a bit of taste for gin when I was on holiday and it is a friends birthday on Friday night so I need to bring some drink can any one help me I was going to try and avoid the gardens gin for example.

Also what tonic water would you recommend.

My top three gins are Tanqueray 10, Sipsmith and Blackwoods. I always use Fever Tree tonic.

Hendricks, Caorunn, Aldi's 'Cromwell', all make a good G'n'T.

For a Martini you'll want something like Tanqueray No. 10.

Recently started to enjoy the odd G&T. I love Graveney Gin although it may only be local to Tooting. Other than that, Silent Pool is very nice. Always use Fever Tree tonic as well, but 1724 tonic water is very nice too.

This afternoon I'm off to the Telegraph Gin Experience :D.

Call me a generic peasant but I really like Schweppes with Bombay Sapphire - like the extra flavouring of Bombay. Failing that, Hendricks is a nice option.

For a supermarket bought gin i like Plymouth, Whitley Neill and Brecon Botanicals, the Aldi Oliver Cromwell Gin is very nice too, probably the best non brand gin imo.

I like Plymouth a lot. Tanqueray and 10 have always been my go to but Plymouth edging them at mo. I found sipsmith a bit something and nothing. Can't abide bombay it's horrid.

my favourites so far this year have been Rock Rose, Bluecoat and the botanist

but my top favourite summer drink so far has been making a pomada using Xoriguer gin and fever tree scicilian cloudy lemon

Tanqueray and dare I say it... Gordons!

Pair these with Elderflower Cordial and you've got yourself the perfect G&T!

Funny enough, I'm drinking one now with Orange Peel and it's lovely!

I love a gin with elderflower, and if the dominant flavour is going to be elderflower it doesn't matter so much which gin you have in my opinion.

If you're just going straight up or with tonic then I'm partial to a Whitley Neill or a Martin Miller in addition to many of the others mentioned above, plus I think Portobello Road deserves a mention.

I enjoy G+T's and have a number of Gins in the house, Sloe, Damson, Plymouth, Sipsmith, Hendricks and Portobello. I have to say unless you are making quite a strong G+T the character of the gin is quite masked by the tonic.
I would imagine the subtleties of the gin are more pronounced neat or in gin cocktails. I know when tasting gins neat the differences are pronounced but I find it hard to tell the difference clearly with ice, zest and tonic.
