Recommend a GPU that allows sound over HDMI

Can anyone recommend me a graphics card that will output sound as well as video via a HDMI cable. Gaming will not be needed at all. Thanks.

any ati 2xxx, 3xxx or 4xxx series card that comes with ati's own DVI-> HDMI adaptor provided you dont already have one ,otherwise just get any 2, 3,4, series ati card

Yes, I have been looking at those cards. Read some very good reviews. I also read one review of a card that allowed you to transfer sound via the HDMI rather than have another cable for the sound, but I cannot remember where now. I would really like to be able to link the PC to the TV using just one cable.

Aaaaah! Pretty neat. How does it work, do you need to buy another cable to run from the sound card to the adapter? Anyone know how big the adapter is? Or even better, have a picture of one!

no, the graphic card as onboard sound.. the adapter is about 2-3inch

I have a spare socket AM2 mobo, 2 Gig Ram, X2 4600 EE, 320Gb HDD, PSU. Just no case or GPU. So for about £40-£50 I can make myself a rather decent media centre to go behind the TV connecting up by HDMI. Nice!

How can you get sound over dvi?
There isn't any sound on the cable thats the main difference between dvi and hdmi,

HDMI is capable of carrying sound and picture as we all know, all ATI 2 -> 4xxx series cards have "special" DVI Ports which, with the help of a special sound chip on the card, allow sound to pass through them and into a HDMI Cable when using an ATI DVI-> HDMI Adapter, Only Works with the ATI adapters though!

the extra pins or un used pins by the dvi are sound on all ati 2,3 and 4 series. so ati's DVI -> HDMI adaptor uses them pins

ATI have a custom DVI out port that when combined with the supplied HDMI adaptor gives up to full 7.1 (on the 4xxx series, 5.1 on the 3xxx models) sound over HDMI.
