Recommend a NAS caddy

i'd build an atom pc and use that. far more functionality, and you know you're going to get proper gigabit speeds

most of the NAS boxes seem to be crap and output from 6-20 mb/s

The drive you linked is a good choice but your NAS choice depends on what you really need.
You can get a lot of one drive solutions with connectivity, but there's no redundancy or upgrade path.

I'd consider what you need it for rather than what interfaces it requires.

It's also a matter of cost though and so I'd like to avoid building a new machine. I'm not in a desperate need for it but it would be a nice solution for streaming media.

take a look at these there not a company you come across mainstream as such but they know what there doing!

http://www.thecus.com/

I myself have a 5200pro and get 50mbps - 60mbps tranfer speeds in a 4 disk raid 5 will be adding a 5th disk later on when i need the space. Can just add a new disk on the fly and it rebuilds the array.

there not the cheapest thing going but they offer a good range of options so might have something you like.

also most have the media streaming module aswell as direct torrent downloads to the box etc.

Just don't buy a cheap one of a popular auction site :p (< £40).

I did and it's the worst thing I've ever bought. Kept just locking up during large transfers and was generally unusable. I can't even bring myself to sell it it's so bad!
