Hi,

Looking for a netbook for my neice. Nothing spectacular, just for facebook, browsing the net and youtube. Budget is around £200 give or take a little.

There's way too many to choose from and never owned one myself would like some input from anyone that has and rates one well in the price range above.

Cheers.

Dell Mini 1012 - good little machine you should be able to find some reviews on it.

Price wise, its around £200-£220 depending where you get it from so :)

Also you might want to look at maybe some Acer range:

Acer AO250/260
Acer AO521/533

thats about it from me :) give them a browse anyhow, look at unboxings on the tube to get an idea of size and capability.

I got an Acer aspire one D250 with Win 7 for just under £200.

I'm very pleased with it :) (In fact I'm posting on it now)

Try to go for a six cell battery and you should get 5-6 hrs out of it between charges

how is it for word processing? i might be getting a netbook just after christmas for uni and college.

They're pretty much all the same inside. It's onlt the screen and keyboard that make any difference, choose between matte (awful on netbooks in my view) and glossy screen and then pick the keyboard.

If pink is important to the girl then i sae a dell one yesterday that was pink.

Add a 4GB sd card for readyboost if she's thinking of doing anything with photos or big documents on it, otherwise not necessary.

It's just about ok for word processing, I'm running 'Open Office' on it. The main issue is the small screen size, which is the same for every netbook. I mainly use it for editing documents I've already created on the desktop. Registers, and timetables.

If you're going to be doing essays/dissertations on it, I think you'd need a full size keyboard and a bigger screen.

How old is your niece and what is she using it for?

As mentioned above, writing a massive essay on it wouldn't be great, for taking notes etc when out and about they are excellent.

However, get one with decent USB ports and the ability to use a 2nd monitor and there is nothing stopping you using it with them at home :)

totally agree with everyone, i like the look on the hp mini 311c and acer aspire one 721, both have 1.66ghz cpu's, 1366x768 resolution, decent onboard for youtube etc, decent space and can run window 7 without fail :) and all at around £250-£270 :)
