Recommend a PSU for 4090

How are you measuring the power draw ? Not doubting your findings just curious.

The ATX 3.0 spec appears to have been put together by Intel and Nvidia whilst in their underpants and high on meth. Who knows what is set in stone and what is arbituary and manufacturers are free to ignore. The 450w limit on 1000w psus may be advisory and Asus have just ignored it and let 600w be used over the 12vpwr connector, we will have to wait for more models to be released and see what is actually happening and available.

The electronic engineering in each individual psu is beyond my understanding and I will follow Aris advice from hwbusters on what the good models are.

HWinfo. Was using a Seasonic PSU before the Loki with 4pcie to 12vhpwer so I had something to compare to.

Performance is also there when comparing my scores in the 3dmark benchmark threads.

WoW you get so much extra info from the Asus psus, pretty cool for the geeks amongst us.

Ok I am not sure what is going on tbh. I thouhg it might show approx 525W for 450 from cable + 75 from pcie slot but that appears to be outside the margin for error if it was limited to 525W. This is why we need actual reviews from respected outlets. At the moment we are not totally sure what is going on and relying on what is available from early releases.

Who is the OEM for the new Asus psus? With the Seasonic units not out yet I am not sure who is building the ATX 3 Asus and Msi psus. Maybe great wall , they did some previous sfx Loki psus.

Hi - I just bought a 4090 (because my 3080 Ti went KO ... anyway, another story...).
I have a 5950x and when using the CPU at 100% the system pulls 270w (I know because running "stress -c 32" I have a UPS telling me exactly the power output is 270w - idle is instead 120~170w - my display is also connected to the UPS, I can plug that to the wall if needed thus saving 55w from the UPS power budget).

I currently have a 750w PSU (be quiet! BN252 Dark Power Pro 11 750w) and I'm planning to run my gaming at 75 Hz (V-Sync of my 21:9 UW 1440p display) and also to control/cap the wattage via nv-pwr-ctrl (I run Linux).
In short - planning to somehow try to cap its power usage.

I would want to buy a new PSU, and from the thread I'm understanding I should wait for the dark power or others to come out?
Also my UPS is 900w - I gather I should buy a new PSU of 850w max?

I still recommend at least 1000w to give you head room

It's not about the total power , but also the 12v power draw
1200 if you getting atx 3
Thanks I agree with high level reasoning - so in short:
  • I should get by for some time whilst new PSU come out
  • I should then upgrade both PSU and UPS to support 1000w (or more as you suggest)
?
Any recommendation for the PSU (and UPS)?

Edit

Went for a Corsair HX1000i and a Corsair Premium 600W PCIe 5.0 / Gen 5 12VHPWR PSU Cable - I'll see to change the UPS over time.
