I've been using Norton / Symantec's full suite for years now and frankly I've had enough!

It's always been a memory hog but now I just seem to get constant cc app & visual basic errors with it.

I'd be grateful for any recommendations on replacement. I don't mind paying if the software is good enough and I have an open mind whether to use one integrated package or a suite from different suppliers.

Any advice gratefully received.

Edit: Sorry should have said, OS is Windows XP.

AVG Antivirus is all that is needed.

quite a few get through its net though, things may seem hunky dory, but beneath that may lie a great demon :p

avast! or antivir are better free alternatives

if you're prepared to pay, then go for nod32 or kaspersky, both are super slim and have very good detection rates

use a router between you and the net, and use windows firewall

Thanks guys,

I'm currently trialling Kasperky Internet Suite 6 and it certainly seems much better than Norton!

Looked at the free stuff but there does seem to be compatibility issues with some of it from reading reviews. Zone Alarm seems to be the most popular free firewall and Avast home edition the most popular free antivirus but all the reviews seem to suggest they conflict with each other & crash!! and that's before trying to add a spam filter program and pop up blocker to the mix. Maybe better sticking with an integrated suite like Kapersky, you obviously don't get the best of everything but at least they won't conflict.

don't use zonealarm, its a crock :p

comodo firewall if you must, but a router + windows firewall is ample, unless you're prone to getting viruses / malware

The best AV for detection rate is Kaspersky 6,beats NOD32 etc....yes I use Kaspersky 6 and think its great, also low on resources too, works great even in Vista x64.
