I am looking to buy a laptop for my mum, she needs something relatively portable so I was thinking about 15 inch and something with a half decent battery life. She'll be using it for Microsoft office, browsing the internet and watching films / videos. She wouldn't be playing games except probably things in Facebook.

I was looking at the acer aspire e1 571 but when I went to have a look at it today @ pcworld it seems pretty tacky, I was also looking at the sony fit 15 but again the quality felt flimsy and the screen was really wobbly. I would like to get her something which is well constructed but try to keep to a budget of around 500 - 600 at the max.

Can anyone recommend me some laptops?

I've just bought myself a Lenovo ThinkPad S440. I can easily say its the best feeling, and best built laptop I have ever bought. It's thin (about 2cm) and light too (about 1.6Kg).

It is of course nice and fast, with an I5, 4GB of RAM and a 500GB HDD for £570.
Or you can get the model with 8GB of RAM for £600 - Which is what I did!

ThinkPads are just renowned for being well built, and more robust than other line ups of laptops. And also the keyboard is supposed to be the most ergonomic, and I would agree!

Hope it helps you decide!
