Recommend an Estate

After getting p'd off last week looking for Golf VR6s my dad has suggested that I get an estate, it'll be handy for carrying my dog around, just that I don't have a clue what sort of estate to go for, my budget is £4K, I've taken £400 off that to cover any extra insurance premium so £3.6K for the car, Ideally I'd like something that is considerably faster than my 97' 1.6 Escort and better handling. Any suggestions?

If its just for a dog, why bother with an estate? a normal hatchback would suffice

Mondeo Estate, could probably pick up a high milage 2000/2001 reg for the cash.

I got my Mondeo ST200 Estate for just over £4k, with only 44k on the clock and FSH, and it is a rocket

Only problem is they are VERY VERY rare, only 300 ever made so finding one would be a nightmare.

volvo or a scooby wagon would be my thinking.
scooby wagons are grp 20 insurance tho i think, due to most being imported or something.
have a look on scoobynet, their sales forum is quite active, dont be scared of the auto either, apparently the box is very good :]

The scooby wagon is a bit pathetic as an estate car though, virtualy no more boot space than most larger hatchbacks. And of course so ugly that you'd need to scoop your eyes out with a blunt spoon before looking at it.

The Alfa 156 Estate is a very nice looking car, but similarly tiny in the boot area.

How about a Passat Estate? Should be able to get a very nice 1.8 Turbo for that kind of money. Dare I even suggest an Octavia?

thats probably because its not an estate

but its only for the dog, so the extra headroom over the hatch should be good enough :]

I think his budget stretches to something better than my 740

a nice 850 T5 would be nice :cool:

I'm liking the sound of the T5, maybe it'll make people move out of my way on the motorway too if they think I'm the old bill

not 100% on price but a Skoda Octavia VRS Estate? same engine as a 1.8 Audi TT ~ 180Bhp i think!
