Evening,

I've not owned/leased a car for about 4 years, as a result of that I've had no insurance obviously, I had 9 year no claims. I presume that is now irrelevant and I am starting from scratch?

I've been given an incredible deal on leasing a Volvo XC60 R-Design and was wondering about insurance. I've gone to the various price comparison sites and put the details in with zero NCD and it's come back with a variety of prices some of which are not as bad I thought to be fair (£530 fully comp parked on the road outside the house, old victorian terrace = no driveway/garage)

I also got some quotes for a RAV4 Invincible which were a bit cheaper than the Volvo but the insurance is quite a bit more.

Can anyone recommend a good insurance company, not looking for the cheapest insurance going but obviously a decent deal would be good.

Cheers

Yes you're starting from scratch and the best insurance company is the cheapest one you can get with the cover options you want.

There's horror stories online about just about every insurer there is. The only right way to deal with insurance is to accept that regardless of who you insure with, when you need to make a claim, they will do whatever they can to not pay you.

I personally tend to avoid ones that are online only that have no phone lines or whatever, as they're just awkward if you need to change your policy details or so. Apart from that, much of the muchness.

After 20+ years as a company car driver I now have a leased car which I purchased at the end of my lease. My employer provided a letter showing zero claims over the last four years (actually much more) and I went to find insurance. Aviva were competitive and gave me 1 year NCB at the start rising to 5 years NCB at year 2.

I pay about £350 fully comp on a 2.2 Honda Civic. This includes business use which you may need or not.

I am quite happy to recommend Aviva although I have had no experience of claiming through them. They have a good online system and are competitively priced.

This can't be said enough, as long as whoever you're looking at has the cover you need, this is the absolute. I have used admiral for near on a decade as they always come out cheapest with multi-car (1 accident with them, went faultlessly but as before, someone will have had a nightmare with them :) ) If you have more than 1 car in the house do a quick quote on this to make sure you won't miss out.

I find Chris Knott always beat any quote I give them.

Recently paid £500 combined for my Integra and the Yaris (two drivers)

I'll remember that! I've got some mods I want to do to my Mondeo and my insurance are quoting another £154 for all of them!

Cheers :D

Tesco wanted £499.57 in the renewal letter they just sent me, 10mins online and I'm now renewing with AXA for £202.83, phoned Tesco to see if they could match or make the difference enough that I wouldn't want the hassle of changing Insurers but they would not budge... I also had a quote through from Hastings for £192 but I'd never heard of them, AXA is known to me so worth paying the £10 more for IMHO. It's a shame you'll only ever find out how good they really are when you need to make a claim. ;)

Be careful - you can't rightly transfer these accelerated bonuses to other insurers so you will have to stay with Aviva or risk fibbing and getting caught out.

I am in year three now, so probably will stay.

Business use insurance tends to equalise a lot of quotes each side of the Aviva one, so I generally haggle them down to near the lowest and then I am content to stay.

I can legitimately claim > 5 yrs accident / claim / conviction free
