Recommendations for wifi access point hardware please, not looking to base the choice on price. I've just bought a house, copper phone line in place already, signed up to broadband provider. The master BT socket in the kitchen is presently the only socket, the vodafone router will be positioned nearby. The kitchen's 12m x 10m, around which I'm going to run ethernet from the router through a 2ft thick adjoining wall to the wifi access point in the living room. My experience of access points is only of those at work, they're HP units maybe 60m apart mounted down the opposite sides and overhead in a hanger, industrial looking, connect-and-forget ultra reliable (i'm told) kit. They're an arm and a leg each to buy and Mil-spec. I would like similar connect-and-forget reliability, but not looking for the same hardened build, I'm not expecting an EMP over the cul-de-sac anytime soon. Advice from those with experience of domestic kit would be appreciated.

P.S I just noticed the profile pics on here. I'm all for live and let live etc but, what's with the enforced female pics for males? No offence meant

UniFi would be a popular recoomendation on here although without gateway you need a controller.
I quite like the Zyxel Nebula range of AP's, the NWA50AX or more recent NWA50BE are really strong and are cloud managed (free).

I use x2 Zyxel NWA130BE units. Work really well. I power them via PoE injectors back to a 2.5Gb unmanaged switch. :)

£149.99

are you looking to just cover the kitchen + living room or the whole house? if it's the whole house, then how big is the house?
if your home is >1000sqft with thick brick walls, then it may well be worth getting a mesh system to eliminate dead spots...in which case eero and deco normally come recommended
personally, im using the tenda nova mx12 mesh system, works well, but im a cheapass and got these from aliexpress for about £80. on amazon it's double the price

For home use, I just installed the software server instead to control my U7 pro kit, I need to makes changes or add kit once in a blue moon. It worked great for my older AC LR stuff too.

You dont actually need the controller software if you dont want it. You can set up APs just using the app. https://help.ui.com/hc/en-us/articles/12594679474071-Standalone-Access-Points-without-UniFi and plug into any old router. Ive never done it so im not sure which (if any) features you give up but its definately possible. Or just install controller on PC/laptop for setup process and then its not needed outside of updates and configuration.

That's the way I did it when I only had 1 UniFi AP, can do the basics like SSID name, password, security, frequencies, channels, width, update firmware, etc. No controller needed.

You can just use a smart phone, there's no requirement to install UniFi Network Application anywhere to control an AP. Edit, saw someone else already replied. :)
